Our Story

We are adopting! If you know us, you understand the weight of such a lighthearted announcement, and we ask nothing less of you than to celebrate, pray, and continue to support us as you already have. After years of one of us not being ready and the other being born ready, we’ve put our yes on the table to make room for one more. As we clean out clutter from closets and drawers, we imagine the space created for diapers and toys.

If you combine our stories, you get a combination of one of us wanting to adopt from childhood because they “couldn’t understand why children and babies were without a home,” mixed with one of us not growing up with much exposure to it, and “because of this, I never considered whether or how it could be a part of my life.” Now, when you add these two sides up, you get years of awkward questions and awkward silences. But when you add the gospel to the mix, you get a conviction, a life change, and a picture of grace.

We attend a church that is big on adoption and foster care. During our time there, God has softened our hearts to adoption, specifically through a sermon series a few years ago on adoption. While in this sermon series, God made some connections more apparent in our hearts about some things. We knew what adoption was, and we knew that we were children of God, but through this series, God put the weight and understanding of us being fully adopted by Him at the forefront of our minds. This reality has been churning in our hearts over time and has helped put us in a place to consider adopting a child.

This child will take on our last name, probably a few of our mannerisms, and be enrolled into our daily routines and habits. They’ll join us on our weekly Chick-fil-A dates, and they’ll laugh and play with all their friends after church while we talk to ours. Our adoption journey is more than just about taking care of a child for life for the foreseeable future, but taking in a child as a part of our family forever, fully in our family.

We have been so blessed to have been raised by such wonderful parents and cared for by such a great community. We can’t wait to pour out what has been poured into us by fully taking in a new part of us.
